How can I delete or remove an email address that shows up in the middle of my iMac screen? I can not move or delete it and it shows through all program applications (Pages, Numbers, Background, etc.). It appears as soon as the Mail application is opened, and will then not go away.

Have you tried a restart?
Yes, the restart will eliminate the email address, but it will return as soon as the Mail application is opened after the restart.
In addition, I can go to Finder and click on "Hide Others" and the email address will disappear, but will reappear as soon as the Mail application is opened again.
Sounds more like another application or process doing it such as Growl. What startup items do you have in your user account Login Items?
This had disappeared/ resolved by the time your answer came. But then today it popped up on Mail. So we've tried your response below to see if it again resolves. Thank you for giving us this suggestion and we'll see if it remains "gone".
