How to set text indent?

Whenever I select text and press the "Indent" icon at the top bar, my text is shoved all the way to the right. For some reason in my Bullet Indent in my inspector shows 31.73 inches and my text indent is 0. This happens every time. I want to select text, then press the "Indent" icon at the top, and I want to see my text indent, something like 0.5 inches. Can I set my "Indent" icon to only indent text at 0.5 inches, while not touching my Bullet Indent? My text is set to "No Bullets" so I'm not sure why this is happening. Thank you in advance.
