Why does my speakers all of a sudden sound muffled?

I have never had a problem before with my MacBook Air's speakers till recently when I noticed a static type noise being infused with my music at certain parts. Does anyone else have this problem? I have the early 2014 MacBook Air...

Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
