Accessibility zoom crashes since ios 8.2 update

The same thing happened to me. I pressed and held both the power button and the home button. The iPad restarted. When it powered on again, zoom was off but grayscale, invert colors and voice control was still on (I was bored so I decided to turn all of them on).

(iPad Mini 2 iOS 10.2.0)

Apple has become a greedy disaster. Many apps are perfect or were perfect a while back. But if they just leave the apps the way they are and don't screw around with them one way or another then nobody gets paid for working. (nobody in the United States anyway, and they're the only Apple employees that count apparently. ) has everyone here figured out the upgrade game yet? If you upgrade your third-party applications that you use perhaps quite often will no longer function, forcing you to purchase apples rip off of that application. Have you ever wondered why windows people have 30 days to decide if they want to keep an upgrade or not, but we as Apple users are forced to except whatever happens after we click upgrade? Go ahead and try and not upgrading. Somethings not touch your name properly? Upgrade. Installing a new application? Upgrade. Hey Apple, upgrade THIS! And while you're contemplating what I most likely referring to when I use the word "this" , contemplate something else... is it possible that if you still did right by people, (people include paying customers and regular people in this scenario) that they might actually appreciate it to the point where they would talk other people into purchasing your products, (rather than telling them not to bother anymore, like I do ) you might make more money than you actually do right now , AND get to feel better about your jobs?

The iPhone 4 was obsolete from the beginning compared to my first Motorola RAZR Android phone at the same time. For example, RAZR had huge and vivid screen, slim and light weight. The iPhone 4 was thick, bulky, small screen and 8gb of storage. The iPhone 5 / 6 / 7 have followed the same way as the iPhone 4 and at a much slower technology rate than most highend Androids. The only reason why I have always owned iPhones is the BATTERY LIFE.

I have the exact same issue, but on the new iPad and it's still not fixed in 8.3.

If anyone knows something I'd like to know too.

I Have this exact same issue and it has been happening at least weekly since iOS 8.2. It did not happen in iOS 8.1. It happens on my iPad Air 2. I have left my old iPad 2 and my iPhone 5S on iOS 8.1 because of this issue.

I Have been in contact with AppleCare and have finally gotten this issue escalated to engineering about a week or so ago. Apple has two complete dumps of iPad diagnostics and a copy of the journal I've kept for this issue. It is an intermittent defect so it Will probably be hard to reproduce. I am hopeful that the diagnostics will lead to an answer.

FOr for me this problem has never occurred in iOS 8 prior to 8.2. Is that true for you guys as well? Were you successfully running iOS 8.1?

also, i don't see much about this issue anywhere else so I'm wondering if our zoom setups are similar. The diagnostics Apple got contain my complete settings profile, so I hope this helps them. Here are my settings regarding zoom that might be relevant.

1 Zoom enabled

2. Show zoom controller

3. Full screen zoom (I can't get used to the window zoom thing)

4. Triple click home button set to enable / disable zoom so I can hide the controller and get it back without having to find it in settings.

I Have had 3 occurrences of the problem in which I did not hard reset to recover. Twice I got distracted while the problem was happening and my iPad eventually just recovered on its own by rebooting itself. The screen went black and then the Apple logo came up and when it recovered to the lock screen I was zoomed in. In one of these cases, the iPad actually went from being stuck to having half the display zoomed in and the other half not zoomed. It was bizarre. The third case I tried to recover with the hard reset method but instead of just rebooting, I actually got the screen that makes you plug the iPad into a computer with iTunes. As soon as I did that it recovered.

I Have been working with a senior advisor on the Accessibility Team with AppleCare. I did not know they had a special team for this, but it impressed me that they do. These people are very knowledgeable about the Accessibility features in iOS and have been incredibly helpful in pulling a game plan together to get this problem documented and get data to the engineering team. I am now hopeful that they will find and fix the defect.

Aple may or may not monitor this forum but they absolutely look at their feedback reports even though they don't respond to you. You should always report feedback by going to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and submitting your feedback.

I Have this problem too. The one correlation i see is that IOS used to have an obnoxious screen rotation issue where it would get stuck in landscape mode and not be fixable wothout a reboot. According to the release notes for IOS 8.2 they fixed the issue with that update. It seems to me, based on the zoom screen freezing and not permitting use, and the power and home buttons not working except for a forced reboot, that their fix for the screen rotation lock may have broken the zoom function. That's just my 2 cents, but regardless, my iPad Air and iPhone 6+ are now practically useless for me. Here is the feedback I sent them:

On my new iPhone 6+ and iPad Air 1 the accessibility zoom feature, which I use because I'm visually impaired, has caused complete screen freezing that requires a forced reboot (power + home button). This is happening all the time since IOS 8.2 came out and it is making the use of my new phone and my older iPad nearly impossible. I know this started about the time Apple finally fixed the other issue of screen rotation getting stuck in landscape.

This is happening across any app I have open. I recently did a full reset and restore as a new iPad using my MacBook Pro and later that same day the zoom crashed the iPad again. To say I'm not amused would be a huge understatement.

Please fix this. My phone and iPad are practically unusable.

In the journal I sent Apple I also mentioned my suspicion around rotation and this zoom issue. There is also a weird correlation between rotation and something called "zoom display", which is available on the iphone 6 and 6+.

Late atest update from Apple... I got a follow up call from my advisor who tells me engineering is looking into the issue. They need more data from me and I will provide that the next time the problem occurs, which I hope is soon. It usually happens to me about once a week.

i"m glad that I am not the only one with this issue. This problem has been extremely annoying and counter-productive. I have this issue on an iPHone 6 Plus and an iPad Mini 2 w/ retina. iOS 8, IMO, has been an extreme nightmare. I had frequent Safari crashes, rotation issues, and various small bugs everywhere. iOS 8.3 has finally ironed out a lot of the Safari crashes and rotational issues, but it has introduced this zoom freezing & reboot issue. This issue occurs on both devices and can do it up to twice a day. It's very frustrating when it happens in the middle of something important. I would like to speak with the same senior adviser in the Accessibility Team to have this issue resolved.

We are still working the issue. I uploaded more info today, including a video of the problem and another dump of mt iPad diagnostics. I know this is taking a long time to resolve, but I sincerely believe they are working on it.

I have noticed recently that when the problem occurs, the device will eventually reboot itself if I am patient enough to wait the 3-5 minutes this takes. I am hoping that this new information and the new diagnostics will help them isolate the problem.

Thank you for your quick response & findings, kbell-tiger. I can also agree that when my device locks up, it will automatically re-spring (restart) itself after a couple of minutes or so. I have recently tested a few things to try to resolve the issue myself. First off, I deleted unnecessary apps, keyboards, etc that could be using up valuable resources in the background (location, RAM, etc.). I have been using a static background for some time now. However, I decided to disable the perspective zoom as it is also another tweak/animation that isn't required. So far, I haven't had any "zoom freeze" issues. FINGERS CROSSED. I'll report back after a few more days of testing this out.

Another option that I intend to disable next is the "Health" app in Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness. Perhaps, someone else can test this out in the meantime.

I hope that we can resolve this ongoing issue before 8.4 is released!

OK, I'm using an iPad and don't care about fitness on this device, so I disabled the setting just now. I seem to have the freezing problem less frequently than you, so it will be a while before I know.

I'm using a dynamic wallpaper. I'm not going to change it because I just changed the fitness and motion setting. One setting change at a time...

I spoke to my advisor today but we don't yet have an update from engineering. This is expected in another couple of days so I will get a follow up call later this week.

Although I can't give you that exact contact information, my advisor encouraged you and any others experiencing this issue to call the Accessibility Team and report the problem. Unfortunately, it appears that disabling perspective zoom did not resolve the issue. My device froze up earlier today. I will now attempt to turn off Metion & Fitness for the Health app while still keeping perspective zoom disabled for testing. I'll follow up on my findings.

Also, thanks again Kbell-tiger for the above post. I will contact the Accessibility team to provide them with additional info/logs that may help them resolve this issue.

Now that iOS 8.4 has been released, I have updated my devices to the latest software. It's far too early to determine if there are any fixes for it. According to the changelog, there are only changes/fixes to the music app, iBooks, and other minor fixes. I hope that there were fixes that weren't listed. BTW, I did a full restore using iTunes rather than an OTA update. Lastly, I still have perspective zoom and motion & fitness disabled. I'll let you guys know if I encounter any issues.
