I have an Early 2008 MacBook with 1 GB of RAM and I'm wanting to upgrade to Yosemite. What will happen if I do?

Okay I am in no way tech savvy but the farthest thing away from it. I'M CLUELESS.....I have an early 2008 MacBook with snow leopard installed but it *****. The apps suck, I cant watch any movies or TV shows, it's very outdated and frustrating! Now it only has 1 GB of Ram and I see it needs at least 2 GB to work okay with Yosemite but what happens if I download it without the 2 GB it gives me option to download I've just been scared to actually push it. Also, will upgrading to Yosemite help with the video problems I've been having the sound keeps cutting off and the picture freezes constantly It may be a media player problem?

You don't want to try to run it with only 2 GB of RAM - 4 GB is considered to be a minimum and if you want to do anything with video, that will not be enough. Aside from that, you can't run Yosemite on it anyway - see here:

You need to have a late 2008 or early 2009 at a minimum.

Time to save up for a newer machine.

Snow Leopard was a very fast OS, probably the fastest of the newer ones. The OSs get more resource intensive as you move up. Yosemite being the most demanding .

So the system requirements for Yosemite:

"MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)"

So it won't even run on your machine.

First upgrade your RAM, buy it here:

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/

At least to 4 GB ( 2 GB X 2)

If you're still having problems do a clean install of OS 10.6.X.

Still problems? then download and run EtreCheck:

and post the results back here.
