FaceTime/iMessage Signing in

when I go on the FaceTime or iMessage tab in settings, it requires me to enter my Apple ID and password, and when I enter it correctly it begins to sign in, but then nothing happens and its still on the page where I'm asked to enter my Apple ID and password

anybody got any ideas???
