Cannot upgrade to Java 8 to run my remote work access

I am trying desperately to upgrade to Java 8 to work on my remote access but I cannot it come with that message

"You are trying to install 1.8.40.27, however 14.9.0 is already installed" I have tried to unistall have from my PC and I think I done it but still does not let me.

Also when I am trying to check on the java my version it says it is missing it plugs in - when I am trying to change my plug in settings I cannot find the Java option - please help - I saw from previous messages to check the terminal but I cannot see how to do that -

Go to the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder. Put this file in the trash:

JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

Reinstall Java 8.

Thanks Kurt I did this but it did not work I found an instruction for the terminal from the Java website and it worked. However my port forwarded came with an error so I still cannot access my work. any other tips?

Do you mean the Terminal command on this page? If so, that works, but doesn't so anything different than the instructions I gave above. It deletes the file JavaAppletPlugin.plugin.

I have no idea what you mean by "port forwarded". What app gave the error?
