Trouble with my new hard drive

Hi!

I've installed a new hard drive on my mac book and am now trying to boot it with a USB stick (wich i made to a bootable drive with Disk Maker).
My mac couldn't find the new hard drive when i restarted it, so i started to erase and partition the hard drive.
However, the process has now took three hours, the process bar remains stuck halfway and the estimated time grows by the minute, now stating it will take 3 hours to complete.

What should i do? I imagine restarting the mac would damage my new hard drive.

Help!

It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have and the OSX.

Take out the new HDD and install the original one. Install the new HDD in an enclosure and connect it to your MBP via USB.

Open Disk Utility>Erase and format the new HDD to Mac Os Extended (Journaled).

You can then clone from the internal HDD to the new one via Disk Utility>Restore.

Ciao.
