i cannot restart my macbook pro once i tried to restart it..please help

Sir.

I am not able to restart my Macbook pro as I tried to rebbot it from the system when I tried to close quit application.It's been two hours now..it shows the sign of rebooting but the system is not started.I am new to apple..Please help..alok

Shut it down and try again. Post back if no success indicating what you have done and how far you get. An A1278 only indicates that is a 13" MBP. A year would be helpful.
