cannot synch calendars with USB and iCloud

I have a MacBook Pro 10.10.2 and an iPhone 4S 8.2. I have calendar synch setup for iCloud and push setup for icloud calendar and 30 min fetch set for the other calendars. Whether I synch via iTunes over USB or initiate a manual synch, I cannot get events I just added to the Mac calendar to show up on the iPhone. I have many calendars listed in the iTunes directory, but I have requested that they all synch. I have requested that they replace existing calendars on the phone during synch, just to see if things would change, but they don't. I do not show all of the calendars in the phone's directory that I see on the Mac. We are on a family iCloud. I really need to be able to synch my calendars. Any Idea what I'm doing wrong?
