how can i download a photo disc to my iMac

Thank you for taking the time to help this computer illiterate woman with her question. I would like to download a photo disc to my computer and can't seem to find out how to do it. Is it possible to do it without an external disc drive I have read the there is a place on the right of the computer to insert a disc but i can't seem to find it. Thank you

If your iMac is Late 2012 or more recent, there is no optical driver inside the computer. In that case you must purchase an external driver or, if you have another Mac with an optical driver, you can share the drive and use the shared driver over the network.
