I will be running a partitioned environment (yea, I'm hating it but have to). For school, I need to run the Windows version of Excel, PowerPoint and Access only.
My concern is that 256 gig HDD will not be enough storage.
Please reply if you are using a partitioned MacAir with 256 gig.

If you virtualize Windows 8 using VMware Fusion or Parallels, you'll be taking up considerably less space on your internal drive.
If you don't want to pay for Fusion or Parallels, VirtualBox is free.

You can allot as much or as little space to a windows installation as you want. Personally, I would give windows around 50GB in Parallels, and keep all files on an external drive.

It depends at least partially on how much space you currently have free. Moreover, while you can create a pretty large c: drive for Windows, you can arrange the space devoted by Parallels to be dynamically allocated so only the space actually needed is taken up on your internal drive. For example, I have 80GB assigned to my Win 8.1 VM but only 33GB on my internal is actually used, and that's with Office 2010 and 2013 and a bunch of other stuff installed.
