Video causes iMac freeze

Please help, perhaps 2 separate but related issues. Playing any QT video now causes my iMac to freeze. I have to switch the iMac off to get control of the machine back, no 'Force Quit' is available, the cursor moves with the mouse, everything else is 'frozen' & nothing is selectable. The first freeze I encountered led to the strange blue 'text' blocks to be left on my screen (see attached) and does not disappear after reboot. (it changes colour depending on the screen background). Any help / suggestions appreciated.

Do you know, this forum is ridiculous! I have been trying for over an hour now, to get this post to your attention in the first place, then send you a screenshot and now I'm unable to add an Etresoft report! Apple is really starting to feel a lot like their great competitor of late.

Did you know you are not communicating with Apple on these forums? Apple does not read or participate in them in any fashion other than to moderate.

If you have feedback for Apple then please post to www.apple.com/feedback.

The hosts made some changes to the banned words this morning as a result of a very, heavy SPAM attack. One of the words that was included in the ban was User uploaded file. It affected several of my posts. There are numerous lines in the report with User uploaded file and I'm guessing that's what's causing the report not to be accepted.

I'll added User uploaded file here to see if my reply will go thru and it wouldn't. Had to replace it with a screenshot. So to post an Etercheck report one will have to remove all those words with an text editor.

As a general troubleshooting procedure boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair both the disk permissions and the disk. Reboot normally and try again.

Next boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and check again. Safe Mode disables all 3rd party extensions so if it's one of those that should be evident in Safe Mode.
