Sorry to hear that you cannot access your photos, but let’s see if we can get it open for you. Try holding the Command and Option keys down and then open up iPhoto; this will bring up a window to repair your iPhoto Library. Once you see that window, select the option to repair the database and if that does not work, try the rebuild database option. For more information, take a look at the link below.

You say you installed the iPhoto Library Upgrader Tool. But did you run it and let it upgrade the iPhoto Library?

The installer installs the iPhoto Library Upgrader in the Applications folder, in the subfolder "Utilities". Launch it from there and select your iPhoto Library to upgrade, see: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
