My Apple TV won't pair with my MacBook Air

When I try to pair my MacBook Air to my new Apple TV, the device shows up in my Bluetooth preferences on my computer, but I only getting a loading signal on my Apple TV. Every time I try to connect, my MacBook gives me a code, and says to check if it is the same as the one on the Apple TV, but nothing pops up on the TV and it eventually says that the pairing has failed. Help please!

Welcome to the Apple Community.

You can't pair a computer with an Apple TV using Bluetooth.

Well that explains that. Any idea how I would get my computer to display on the TV then?

You use AirPlay.

no pairing is necessary.
