any way to locate stolen 7th generation ipod nano? disable it from being synced to another itunes account?

My received the newest ipod nano for christmas, then less than two weeks later he leaves it at a friends house for a couple of hours but upon his return, it's gone. Any way it can be located? or is there a way to disable it from working? Police report got us nowhere. It even had his name engraved on the back of it. 😠
