The phone speaker is turned to max volume but I can barely hear anything on a call. Even when using speaker phone, the volume is reduced. Also, I can detect some static/distortion on the speaker when I listen to music. I tried cleaning the outside of the speaker to no avail. The phone has not been dropped or damaged. Thanks for your help!

Basic troubleshooting steps are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.
If those steps fail, then you likely have a hardware issue and will need to bring your phone to Apple for servicing/evaluation.
