What is wrong with my iPhone 6 plus keyboard?
iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.2
What troubleshooting have you tried? Power the device off/on. If that does not work, then do a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. It will not affect your data. See if it is fixed then.
Thank you for replying, first of all. Yes, I have powered it off/on. Rebooting was my next option...going to try that.🙂
UGH! Well, rebooting did not work either. 😟
Well your next steps are restoring from backup, and finally restoring as new device. If the problem still persists after those 2 steps, then you likely have a hardware issue and will need to bring the phone to Apple for servicing.
Best,
GDG
Could an APP have made the keyboard do that?
Nuts. Thank you for all your help!!
It shouldn't have, but do you have any 3rd party keyboards installed? Did you try the restore from backup? As long as you do a backup of the device before you do it, you should not lose any data.
I had two, but one in particular seemed to be real buggy, crashing a lot, so, I deleted it. But it is still crashing too, when I use Messages. Haven't tried restore from backup yet.
Did you do a reset on the phone after removing the keyboard? It may still have some affect on things. If the reset after deleting did not change things, then you are going to have to look at the restore.
Yes, did reset, twice, didn't fix the keyboard. If I do a restore from an older backup, won't I lose everything from then till now?
Yes you will, if you use an older backup. You can create a backup now and try it, or restore as new and restore the older backup. That decision is up to you, but understand that restoring to a backup takes the device back to that particular date and time. Anything done since that date/time is lost.
Just wanted to say thanks again to you all for your help. The new iOS update fixed my keyboard and pretty much the problem I was having with the third party keyboards. 🙂 YAY!!! So, I didn't have to restore to an older backup. 😀
First off, you don't want to hard reset an iOS device unless it is completely unresponsive. Hard resets can damage the operating system and make a software issue worse. To the original poster. Do you use a lot of third party keyboards? I would try disabling all third party keyboards, restart the device and see if it persists. If its fixed, add one keyboard at a time and test until you find the one causing the symptom. If it continues when they are all disabled, backup your devices information, erase content and settings of the device and setup as new. Does the issue persist? If so, restore the iOS using iTunes. If it goes away, sync your data back on and refrain from using your backup as it is corrupted.
I didn't have to do anything, the new update fixed all my issues! (I have two third party keyboards). ALL GOOD NOW!
Ehhh...well, I still get crashes every once in a while....still better though. Mostly when I send gifs.
