Android File Transfer not working with MAC OSX 10.9.5

My Macbook air with OS X 10.9.5 will not recognize my Samsung S5 android phone. I use android file transfer.

My wife's macbook air with OS 10.7.5 has no trouble connecting to the same Samsung phone. What do I do?
