Yosemite update hanging at 50%

I have a Mid 2011 i-Mac, and yesterday I noticed that there was an update available in the App Store.

I proceeded to try and instal the update. After over an hour, I noticed that the update was hanging at about 50% on the progress bar.

Hours later it was still hanging, so looked on the net (on my i-pad) to see if anyone had similar problems. (It was obvious that I was not alone).

On the site 1 x person had offered a possible remedy that he said worked for him, which was to;

Hold power button off for 10 secs to turn computer off

Wait about 10 secs, then turn computer back on again while holding down 'Command' and 'R' buttons

(This process takes about 2-3 minutes to boot)

Then it says to turn off WIFI at symbol on upper right of screen.

Next it says to select Restart from the System Menu option.

This then rebooted and finished the upgrade for this person.

Unfortunately it did not work for me!

Each time I try to reboot the same thing happens (it hangs once reaching about 50% progress.

Please can anyone offer a solution that works

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Have exactly the same issue from update yesterday, but the solution does not work.

System is completely stuck

Can get to OS X Utilities screen (Command R), and try the WiFi off solution but takes me back to square one cutting out at 50% update and then turning itself off around the five minute mark.

Tried this three times now, still no joy.

Considered reinstalling OS X option and agree terms but select the disk it doesn't do anything and cannot find

The install option being light grey.

Therefore completely in limbo, can anyone advise on solving this?

Hi

I do have the same problem , tried all the different possibilities to restart also cmd & R . (does not work) I do have a Backup on time machine, but i can not access it cmd&R also stops at half way mark. . 2 days ago i did a OS re install and it was after that ok . until this morning

If i just want to restart i get the startup and a message " Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up." Restart , when it start i get texts , first line Debugger called <panic> and than it restart again. And than the whole proses goes on in a loop.

Any idee how i can access my ext hard drive with Time machine ?

I do have Beta on my Macbook.
