Hi there

I've been trying to help a friend of mine who has recently acquired a second-hand iMac CRT (I guess it's a G3, but I've never used a Mac before).

It's running Internet Explorer 4 as its browser, but IE isn't working correctly, so I'd be grateful if someone can tell me :
- which is the best browser for me to download for the iMac CRT ?
- how can I find out which version of the operating system is installed, so I can download the correct version of the browser ?

Your assistance is much appreciated.

many thanks in advance....

Andrew

    Andrew,

First of all, Welcome to the Apple Discussions Forums!

I believe you can click on the Apple menu and select About This Mac. That should show which version is installed.

If it has a Tell Me More button click on that and it should give you a lot more info.

    hope that helps some,

edit: It will depend on the operating system what version of what browser you would choose.

    1. Try using iCab.

    2. Since you were running Internet Explorer 4, you are running Mac OS 9 or earlier, and you are probably using one of the Mac OS 8 versions. To find out which, click on the desktop and choose About this Mac from the Apple menu. Mac OS 8.6 shows its version on the Welcome to Mac OS screen you get when you turn on the computer, while older versions of the Mac OS do not.

If it has at least Mac OS 8.6 (or 9.x), you can also try my favorite Mac OS "classic" browser.

If it has Mac OS 8.5.x, you can upgrade to 8.6 with a free download updater from Apple.
