I consistently get "A communication failure has occurred" when attempting a large file copy (of a Mail folder) from a remote desktop to mine. All other ARD functions between me and the remote computer seem to be working just fine. I can copy small files without error. The large copy starts ok and chugs along for a few minutes, then produces the communication failure, almost every time, and under a variety of different network configurations. An ideas?
"Afternapop"... Thanks for your assistnace.
I'm trying to copy approx 200mb.
I tried zipping it into a zip file, and still got the communication failure.
Is there any log where I can get more information on "a communication failure occured"? You'd think there'd be some sort of protocol to retry after a failure, etc. Why does it just give up???
did some further testing, and I have absolutely no problems using AppleShare to copy the large file(s). So the network, and even Apple's own (other) file transfer protocol are working just fine. Yet ARD 3 chokes every time with a "communication failure". Even more frustrating, it gives no helpful error messages, and there is no option for "automatically retry". It just gives up.
Basically you have to move the file to copy off the local drive onto a drive that isn't obeying permsissions.
Another option is to change the group of the file(s) to 'admin'.
Also you might want to try disabling then re-enabling the Remote Desktop service on the remote workstations, or even using the kickstart command to force the ARD components to reload.
Seems to also help to disable other services (web, ftp, etc) on the remotes.
