iMessage does not continue a conversation on another device

Recently I have not been able to continue an IMessage conversation that was started on my MacBook Air on my IPhone 5 and vice versa. While my MacBook Air shows that Messaging is open on my IPhone the two devices do not share the information. I have gone into Preferences on Messaging and looked at my account. It shows the email address that is associated with my Apple ID but it does not allow me to enter my cell phone number anywhere. My cell phone number is listed under my Apple ID.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Hello suzietennis,

I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues on your devices. If you are having issues continuing your iMessage conversations across your devices as you have in the past, you may want to double-check the settings outlined in the Use iMessage and FaceTime with multiple devices section of the following article, including the following sections on issues with missing phone numbers:

iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support

Sincerely,

- Brenden
