HDMI and displayport at the same time?

I am wondering if it is possible to use both the HDMI port and the thunderbolt port at the same time on my macbook pro retina display for the purpose of having 2 external displays.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9), 8gb ram
