keeping email messages on the phone
I want messages downloaded from email server to remain on my phone until I delete them and be unaffected by actions taken on any other device.
iPhone 5s, iOS 8.2

Then you need to set up your email account as POP instead of IMAP.
ok, how is that done?
That depends; who is your provider?
Comcast is my ISP.
I have made several searches on Google and all have step by step instructions that include a step that includes a choice of POP or IMAP, but my current version of iOS does not have that choice.
I previously had messages remain on my phone, but something happened that caused me to re-install the email account, now all I can get is IMAP.
My iPad still works with POP and I have tried to copy those parameters to my phone but cannot ever get mail.
I have read that if you set it up with the wrong password on purpose, when the popup window appears to change it, it is there that you will have the opportunity to change the protocol from IMAP to POP. If this is a possibility with Comcast, this will be your best best. If Comcast will work at all with POP that is....
Best of luck.
