Q: How to replace my 500GB Time Capsule with a newer model?

I'm interested in replacing my old 500GB TC with one of the newer models because I'm out of space and the new one would improve router efficiency. What would I need to do to replace the old one with the new one?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I suppose you want to transfer all your backups to your new AirPort Time Capsule, so you only have to follow these steps -> How to migrate Time Machine backups from one AirPort Time Capsule to another - Apple Support

Thank you! If I just turn off the old machine and install the new one will the old backups still be on the old machine if needed? So maybe no need to migrate?

Correct. As you can see, your old AirPort Time Capsule will keep your old backups, but note that you will change the Time Machine drive when you get the new Time Capsule, so maybe it is worth the effort of transferring backups.
