Quicktime screencast is not displaying my iphone

I have an iPhone5s that was working great with Quicktime screencast w lightening cable.

But now the screencast shows iphone as an option in new movie recording, but doesnt show the iphone screen. It remains a small black box.

The iphone is recognized by the computer, iphoto and imagecapture. I do notice that the iphone in iphoto is iphone(7) but in quicktime is iphone(3)

i think it started having issues after i installed the ios8.2 update on my iphone5s

As a trial i tried another iphone6 and it screencast perfectly fine.

any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have had this happen when I allow the iPhone 5s to "go to sleep" before starting/finishing the QT X "Movie Recording" set-up. In my case, I simply complete the set-up selections (app normally defaults to FaceTime camera when iPhone falls to sleep) in the "small black window" and then "wake up" the iPhone and sign in again to "re-fresh" the iPhone recording window. Check to see if this is what is happening in your case.

Thanks, Jon. I am not sure this is my issue b/c i am doing everything within a few seconds of connecting the device and starting quicktime.

i have tried different combinations and sequences of flipping back and forth from iphone to camera, starting/stopping a recording, closing quicktime and reopening

None of these are helping with this particular phone - which is my main device.

well, of course, the thing i had not tried was restarting the iphone.

Now the screencast works

Not sure if you referring to a "reset" or simply pressing the "Home" button. I was previously referring to the latter but if you had to actually turn the iPhone off and then restart it, then the device probably had an IOS glitch which the reset fixed. In any case, glad to hear things are working once more.
