Brightness Control for Studio Display?

I borrowed the 17-inch Studio Display from my PowerMac, connected it to a DVI-to-ADC adapter, and connected it to my Mac Pro. However, I have no control over the brightness of the Studio Display. Per this Apple Support Document, apparently Apple dropped support of controlling vintage displays. I don't understand the why or how; nonetheless, it is what it is.

My question to the community is has anyone found an application to do such a thing... turn the brightness up or down on a Studio Display?
