Massive Battery drain by Facebook Messenger app

I've googled and Facebook doesn't have a good track record but I thought I'd find more specific complaints on it.

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.2.

my battery usage time is only a few minutes short of the standby time, app using most battery is Facebook Messenge, I uninstalled it for a week and got normal battery life again.

i am a bit hesitant to do a restore of the iPhone, is there anything else I can do? anyone else experiencing this?

My wife's phone is identical but doesn't have this problem.

iPhone 5, iOS 8.2

Allan, no response from them yet.

Meg, yes I've tried different settings for background refresh and location services for facebook messenger and hasn't helped.

Powered iPhone off and on, reset it, neither helped.

Tried using wireless only one day, the next 3G only, only thing that helped was to uninstall facebook messenger, but other family members don't have this problem.

Very frustrating.

Have you checked Settings>General>Background App Refresh? Background App Refresh can use a lot of battery life. Try turning it off for Messenger.
