I want to make my iMac 8,1 as an extended display of a macbook 5,2.
Is this possible? what cable do I need to perform this?
Both of them have these ports: Mini DVI and firewire.
Can I use Mini DVI to Mini DVI cable?

Your 8.1 machine does not have the ability to be used as an external display unless you use some very old and slow sotfware. Read the links Rudegar provided.

You can try AirParrot http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/ if you're running 10.7.5 or later. It may or may not perform to your satisfaction.
There is no hardware solution in your case because your iMac is not capable of receiving video through it's mini dvi port.

While Air Parrot is a good app, it will not do what he wants. Please re-read the OP's original post.
