Are iBooks Connections Secure?

I am using iBooks on both my MBP & iPad Air 2. I would like to download my e-books using my local library's WiFi.

It's my understanding that SSL provides a secure connection, such as using HTTPS in a browser, for instances in which one must enter a password. iBooks also uses my password, which makes me wonder whether iBooks uses a secure connection when doing so.

Thanks,

Your connection to iBooks - which is essentially the same as connecting to iTunes - is as secure as any you would have. However, unless you are using VPN, no public WiFi connection should ever be treated as completely secure. Personally I avoid any activity associated with financial instruments when on public WiFi, including anything requiring my AppleID login.
