Change account name

Suppose I need to change my user name (short name), but keep all my files and settings. What is the best and most robust way to achieve this? Thanks for any help.

You can change the username using Netinfo Manager. CAUTION! before you do it enable root account and log into root account to change the username. Changing the username will cause that user to lose admin status, and if that is the only admin user on your machine you will find it without an admin user.

After you change the username, you need to examine the Accounts prefpanel to reset the admin status of the new user, then reboot. You should be able to log in to the new account as usual. Post here any problems, because they can happen.

After the process is complete you can disable root account.
