Q: uninstalling windows xp

Tried to uninstall windows XP through boot camp where I installed it. Nothing comes up that says uninstall partition. Asked me to install windows or Windows 7. I used XP. Help. Help.

Was XP installed using the current version of OSX and BC Assistant?

Does you Mac and BCA support un-installing Windows XP? BCA should show you an option to Remove Windows.

Do not know BCA means. I installed it through the partition in boot camp. Boot camp will not allow me to uninstall the partition.

NO I guess my bca does not support uninstalling. That does not appear. Only installation.

BCA = Bootcamp Assistant. It can be run from Applications -> Utilities -> Bootcamp Assistant.

I did that. When I click on bca it only say install windows or install windows 7. Does not say uninstall. That is what is confusing.

How was XP installed on this Mac? What version of OSX was used for such an installation?

I used boot camp assistant to install. Currently running 8.0.4 on my mac. Must have been an earlier version say three years now. Guess that is the problem. Thanks.

8.0.4? Is it 10.8.5?

You have two options.

1. Boot from an external disk which has the appropriate version of OSX and BCA and remove XP. Please see OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support.
2. Manually remove the partition and correct the hybrid MBR.
