Can I Export Without Thumbnails

I'm using ReadIRIS Pro 11.5.6 OCR software.

It's faster to scan from my Epson scanner utility than from within that program.

So I have many pages from a booklet scanned in turned left and right.

Before importing them to OCR, I want to orient the pics in iPhoto, which is very easy to do -- viewing in two columns, and the ones on the right are oriented the same way (because of flipping the book every other page). And I can select all the left ones and turn them together. And then the other column I can flip in unison the other way. So they are then all vertical right reading.

Then I can export them to a folder and then import them into ReadIRIS in batches.

The problem is that iPhoto gives all the pictures (pages) a thumbnail which also appears in ReadIRIS. So I get two copies - one normal rez and one thumbnail rez. And I have to take an extra step to select and delete the thumbs.

No thumbs existed before taking the images into iPhoto.

Is there a way to set iPhoto to NOT attach thumbnails?

If not, is there any utility where I could do what I want easily?

Thanks.

D Akey:

Are you using the File->Export->File Export menu option? If you check in that folder after the export is complete you'll see that there are no thumbnail files in there. I'm not familiar with ReadIRIS but it may be creating the thumbnail itself rather than importing a thumbnail file as iPhoto doesn't create one when exporting.
User uploaded file Do you Twango?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Yes, that's how I export the files.

Most files with thumbnails that are created in other programs do not show a separate file if a thumbnail/preview was generated (like from Photoshop, where as I recall you can toggle the preview thumbnail on and off in prefs).

But if I were to import the scanned files to ReadIRIS directly it doesn't show a second (thumbnail) file. But when I import it into iPhoto and then export as you have indicated, when I then import it, it has 2 versions -- one full and one thumbnail. So the only extra step was iPhoto.

It may be embedded? I don't know.

Anyway, thanks for responding.

It's solved in so far as there is not much I can do to eliminate the thumbnail issue. If I import the images into a program that embeds the file with that thumbnail, it does. Happens in Photoshop too and probably a good number of others.

So in ReadIris it's relatively easy to select every other image in the queue and delete the thumbs.

Didn't want to have to if it was something that I could tell it not to do in iPhoto. C'est la vie.

Thanks again.
