iPod 1.3 = Error 1417, cannot update

iPod 1.3 = Error 1417, cannot update

When trying to upgrade my iPod Nano to 1.3 iTunes 7.0.1 returns the error code 1417.

I can update songs on the Nano if I say "no" to the update so iTunes finds and recognizes the Nano.

Any workarounds? I have tried rebooting.

Okay, looks like hitting "menu + select" while the progress indicator is moving did the trick.

I had the same problem. I have two Ipods. The first one updated fine, but the second one I got the 1417 error. I just reset the Ipod while the open dialog box stating "Updating bla-blas Ipod" was opened.

It worked fine. The only difference in these two Ipods is the color. Could it be? lol... j/k

Interesting - I had the same 1417, but the reset didn't help me at all - but I noticed that I only had less than 10MB free on my 2GB (1st gen) Nano. Once I freed up some more space (~500MB), the 1.3 update ran no problem, no reset needed.

So, check your free space if you still have 1417's, I guess...

Let's get some information for the Apple Engineers. Please copy and paste these questions into an email, make the subject of the email "iPod error report", add your answers, and send the email to Roy at Apple.

1. What error code are you seeing?
2. When are you seeing it (restoring or updating your iPod)?
3. Which iPod do you have?
4. What version of Windows do you have?
5. What Windows service pack do you have installed?
