Help - Gapless playback is killing my PC

Have iTunes 7.0.1.8 on both home and work machines. I let my home machine run a gapless playback analysis on my 60GB iPod Photo when last connected. Now iTunes makes listening unbearable between some tracks on my work machine.

I'm listening to tracks off the iPod connected via USB to Windows XP Pro and between tracks Windows grinds to a hault as CPU usage cranks up to 100% in task manager.

Gapless playback seems to have secrewed things up for playback via USB, but this only occurs with some albums, or artists, freezing with 13-7 seconds of playback remaining even though the audio has finished. Can anyone suggest a fix for the affected albums?
