ipod mini not recognized in itunes

HELP! my ipod mini shows up in the finder window when i plug it in and shows a "do not disonnect" screen but when i open itunes it doesn't recognize it, even though the ipod is flashing "do not disconect"....
i fully charged the ipod beforehand and have reset my ipod, restored my ipod, restarted my computer, downloaded the latest version of itunes and still itunes does not recognize my ipod which never changes from the "do not disconnect screen" while plugged into my computer, so in the end i just have to pull it out and eject it, regardless of wat it says.

any ideas...ANYONE???
thanx

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are.

Still no joy? Have you see these?

iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.

iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X.

iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes.

I had this exact same problem and I tried every single solution posted in this forum and I finally found the answer to it somewhere else. Try this:

1) Make sure that you have these services running (control panel - Admin. - Tools - services):

Network DDE DSDM
Network DDE
Clipbook
Routing and Remote Access
Terminal Services
Server

2) Stop the Ipod Service (same location as (1)]
3) Connect your |Ipod
4) Start itunes (this will automatically start Ipod Service again)
5) Update the new s/w in iPod.
This should not take more than 3 mins. after that, it will restart your ipod and it will be updated as noted by itunes.

I found that all the services except Server had been disabled in my services and once on enabled them I had no problem updating my ipod and getting itunes to recognize it!
Hope this helps!
