Q: powermac g4 not working...

I've just bought a PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1.25 FW800 from eBay for a really good price, & after nearly 2 weeks the system is practically dead. I only started it up once when it arrived, which was on a relatives monitor. It powered up fine but I didn't have a mouse to test it properly or turn it off, so I had to force shut it down by holding the power button. After that I left it for nearly 2 weeks while I waited on some parts to upgrade it with, & thoroughly cleaned every internal part. I waited on a VGA cable for a long time & every time I removed a part & cleaned it, I would power up the mac just to make sure it was working & to hear the 'bong' then force shut it down again, without knowing if it was actually outputting video. I did this several times which I don't think was good for it :/ But finally, after receiving my cable, & several hours of messing around in the mac, it wouldn't work. I kept getting unexplainable kernel panics on every power up, most of the time ending up telling me "you need to restart your computer". Restarting does nothing & it continued to display the message. I had replaced the original combo drive with an LG superdrive & put in a, previously non existent,160GB seagate HDD with 10.5.8 installed, which worked fine upon initial power up. that was it. I have since tried replacing the battery & the whole PMU reset thingy, but to no avail. If anything thats made it worse, because since removing the old battery it has only ever powered up & blown the fan on full speed, without outputting video... can anyone help me?

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
