I have just bought a Macbook Pro and can't get my Freeserve email to work properly It will download my emails but won't send. Im sure that I have put in the correct server details. Has anyone had a similar problem and how did you get it to work?
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
It would seem yo have an incorrect setting for the outgoing server.. Check you setting here:
Thanks for your swift response. I have tried the apple support mail settings link above and it doesn't recognise the Freeserve address.
I have checked the settings as shown in digital spy and Im sure that I am using the correct pop and smtp settings.
Still can't get free serve emails to send!
Mail uses a sending server and a receiving server, and it is sometimes difficult to get and set all the settings for each server.
Use Mail > Window > Connection Doctor ...
... to show exactly which server is the problem. Click on any red dot you see in Connection Doctor to be taken directly to the settings for that server, then re-enter the information you were given.
Hi, Once again many thanks for a swift response. I have already tried the connection doctor have input the outgoing server details very carefully to ensure that they are correct and it still won't send. Do you have any further suggestions?

No. Not tried Freeserve but have connection details from my iPad.
Are there any email apps available to try with the MacBookl?
Try the free FoxMail from the Mac App Store.

Ive downloaded the email app that you suggested. I can now send emails. I have used the same settings as in the email browser that I used with the software that came with the Mac Book so can't understand why it doesn't work.

Have you managed to get the connection Doctor lights to all turn green? If not, there is some assumption that Mail treats differently than that other software. You must be certain to close the window and save changes, otherwise the changes you made are temporary.
There is one more wacky thing that can keep you from sending, even if the Connection Doctor light turns green.
If you have not adequately specified the sending server as the one to be used for replies.

Yes both lights are green. I have ticked the outgoing mail server box. Emails are being received ok. Just not able to send. Everything appears to be set up correctly. Really starting to pull out what little hair I had left😕
Eventually managed to get the Apple Email to work after much playing about today.

Or did it just start to work when you fiddled with it long enough?
I think that it was to do with the description of the SMTP server.
I noticed that when trying to send emails it always came up with my email address in the description for the outgoing server. The software seems to automatically use your email address for the outgoing server. I changed the description to the smtp server address and this seems to have fixed the problem At least I think that was the problem.
