imac g5 dvd player gone haywire

I bought my imac in january and the cd drive doesn't read 4 out of 5 dvds. It makes a funny grinding sound, as if the dvd is slipping or there's sand in the drive. I've tried cleaning the dvds and checked them for big scratches. No luck. And the dvds play just fine on my laptop.

Any suggestions for fixing this at home?

If your Superdrive will read a Commercial Movie, and if we are taliking about a previously burned DVD then it sounds like MEDIA. The sound you here is the drive reading the lead in and checking for any encryption on the disc's youe are inserting.
Mac's Superdrive tend to be on the picky side when using cheaper Media. Most users expieriance little problems when using the higher quality media.
