Upgrading 2009 Macbook

I have a mid-2009 white MacBook with 2GB of memory in two slots - 800Mhz DDR2 SDRAM. I see the spinning beachball far too often. Can I upgrade to 4GB by replacing the memory using the slots I have? And if so, will it improve the performance of my MacBook or should I bit the bullet and upgrade to a newer model?

You can upgrade to 6GB of ram actually. It will make a huge difference.

*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory

AVoid bargain basement brands and inly buy your ram from OWC (they offer a 6GB kit) http://eshop.macsales.com/ or Crucial (does not offer a 6GB kit) http://www.crucial.com/
