Adding guide lines to layout

When you add guidelines to a layout (red vertical or horizontal lines), they will appear on pages using that layout provided you also choose View -> Show layout boundaries.

Sorry, I meant blue lines. Red is the color of layout boundaries. I did notice that sometimes the layout lines will not show up on existing pages. Just to test, try to add a new chapter with the layout that contains the new guide lines.

make sure that the guides are on the first and second page of the layout. If you only put the guides on the main (first) page of a layout, they won't show when you add a page to your iBook.

there's no left and right pages in iBooks Author. There's a first page, and all other pages. When you add guides to a chapter, you need to add them to both the first page and the second page to make sure that when you add a default page the guides will show up. Attached is a screenshot. If you still are having problems, the only thing I can think about is maybe there's an issue with the template you are using if its not a built-in template.
