why can't I change patches in Garageband with out this prompt

Garageband 10.10.3

I am trying to change patches in a track in a song, either guitar tracks or vocal tracks.

I am prompted to SAVE THE AUDIO PATCH, to the Audio Folder, so, I select save but the patch does not change in the track,

I try again and am prompted to SAVE THE AUDIO PATCH and am warned that it's already been saved do I want to overwrite it. So now I am getting a group of saved audio patches, and if I go to user patches to select on of these patches I didn't want to save and select it thinking it would make the change I want, I am prompted to SAVE AS again. Catch 22, Ground Hog Day (I hate that movie)

No, I just want to change the audio patch to hear how a different one will sound and if I like it keep it.

This happens every time, guitar, or vocal in not just this song.

Any idea how to be able to change the patches with out this situation happening, and maybe WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

As always I thank the community for helping if possible, really need to get this figured out to proceed with recording.

UPDATE EDIT:

I just quit GB, opened the song again and selected different patches and it seem to be working correctly, no asking to save.

?????
