Q: Wrong keyboard settings at start up

Hello,

A while ago I did a Migration from a TM back-up to a new computer.

The source had AZERTY keyboard settings, the destination QWERTY, because I went from azerty to qwerty, obviously.

Now, the problem is that when I do a cold boot or reboot, the log in screen is standard set to AZERTY instead of QWERTY (that's how the system is set)

When I put my MBP in Sleep Mode and try to log in afterwards, everything's fine. I'm able to type in QWERTY.

So how do I change these settings to ALL qwerty, for simplicity?

Thanks!

    Hi 1tio1,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that your preferred keyboard layout is not what is expected on start-up. In this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the steps in the following attached article. Please let me know if the issue continues.

OS X: How to change the keyboard layout at the login window - Apple Support

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. Click Users & Groups to display the pane (or choose User & Groups from the View menu).
    3. If the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the window is closed, click it, then enter the name and password of an administrator to unlock it.
    4. Click Login Options.
    5. Select the "Show Input menu in login window" checkbox.
    6. From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
    7. At the login window, click the Input menu (shows the name of the currently selected input source next to a keyboard icon) in the upper-right corner of the screen, then select the desired input source or keyboard layout. If you don't see the input source you are looking for, move the pointer over Other Input Sources, then select the input source from the complete list that appears.

    Best regards,

    Joe

I had the same issue and going threw the System Preferences didnt change a thing for me.

    What actually works :

Set the keyboard you wanna use in your admin user, both in language and region AND in keyboard preferences, then fire up the terminal :

      sudo cp ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.HIToolbox.plist /Library/Preferences/

    followed by :

      sudo chmod 644 /Library/Preferences/com.apple.HIToolbox.plist

    Then restart without logging out

    Enjoy :-)
