Creating a Smart folder for RAW images

Hello
I want to crete a smart folder in Aperture 1.5 to display all my raw images. I have managed it ok with images from my Nikon D200 as there is exif info for Nikon image quality, however I have lots of images taken with my Canon 20D and 300D (.cr2 file ext) and there dosn't apear to be any Canon image quality exif fields (have tried creating the smart folder from image name but this dosn't work as the file extension isn't regarded as part of the file name) any help much appreciated

I want to do the same thing. I think you should be able to have a smart album of all NEF images or all PSDs or all JPEGs. I can't believe Aperture does not offer this option. In list windows you can't even sort by file format, or 'arrange by kind' -- which is a basic Finder function. I know you can have a smart album that includes all files that end with ".jpg" but that's not exactly the same thing.

The Nikon D70 has a shooting mode that takes a basic JPG and a NEF file for each shot, so that you can organize your shots using the jpegs if you don't have a RAW processor on hand. But these photos all have NIKON QUALITY -- RAW on their metadata, even the individual jpegs. So much for having a smart album with just "RAW" photos. It would include these jpegs.

I just tried this and it seems to work fine. I created a smart folder, then added "Other Metadata" to the settings and selected "File Name", setting it to does not contain "jpg". All of my non-JPEG photos were included: TIFF, DNG, Raw. The File Name is the master file name and not EXIF data.

If you somehow imported your masters without file extensions (the only way I can think this won't work), I'd recommend removing them from Aperture and re-import them with the appropriate extension (.CR2, etc.). That way you can easily pull all your Raw photos into a smart folder.
