Ok so, I donot have problems sending video files however whenever I try sending a mp3 file then a message pops up saying it requires to find an app in app store to open the app. Whatever happened to the music app lying right there in my iPod?

The only way to get music into your iPod's Music app is to sync it to your iPod or purchase from iTunes.
An app like GoodReader should work. GoodReader is a paid app and it plays mp3s. I have tried it on my iPad.
