Setting up the Behringer BCF2000 as Control Surface?

Hi,

I'm having a miserable time trying to get Logic Pro X to work with my control surface. I got the BCF2000 to be able to use the motorized faders to control automation options in my mixes, and it seems that Logic Pro 9 was the last version to have native support for this module.

I tried scanning the devices and manually adding a new device, but that brought me to add a device called 'Recording' and I could do nothing else from there. I don't see that Behringer provides a driver for this device, so I'm kind of backed into a corner. Can someone help me out in setting this up to work in Logic Pro X?

Thanks a ton

From what i understand from a client of mine.. the BCF2000 works fine with LPX.... once correctly set up.

The fact you don't get as far as the PN stage indicates an error you have made somewhere along the way.. or a config error or conflict.

So.. do the following first before you try and set up the BCF....

First of all make sure ALL Advanced tools in Logic Pro X's preferences are turned on.... so LPX is not running in the simple 'Garageband Pro' Mode...

Then... in exactly this order;

  1. Quit Logic Pro
  2. Disconnect ALL external Midi controllers... including the BCF and any keyboards etc..
  3. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  4. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  5. Press the Go button.
  6. Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
  7. Shut Down the Mac (Do not just restart it)
  8. If you have any iOS devices that you have used with any midi controllers/midi apps etc.. power them down until after you have setup the BCF (Power down, not just put to sleep)
  9. Connect the BCF200 but do not connect any other controllers/midi keyboards
  10. Power up your Mac
  11. Launch Logic Pro X

Now follow the steps in this video exactly as shown...

..and according to my client, it then works correctly... so test and see.

You can then connect any other controllers/keyboards... as normal..

Please note: I personally don't own nor have I used a BCF with LPX.

The client of mine who had one, got it up and running without issue several months ago but then sold it on eBay as it didn't suit his needs.... but the info I posted is basically what he told me he did, to get it up and running when he first got his... so hopefully it will help.

Thank you so much! That process actually worked! I hope that I'll have use for it considering your client found it wasn't suited for his, but nonetheless, thank you again so much!

And just an aside, I have to plug the unit directly into my Macbook Pro. For some reason it won't work when I plug the interface into the Apogee Duet's MIDI In, but perhaps because the unit isn't compliant or something of that nature. Either way, It's really amazing to have this sorted out.

Firstly, you are welcome.. Glad I could help you get it up and running 🙂

I have to plug the unit directly into my Macbook Pro.

At a guess I would assume this is because, like some other controller type devices.. it needs a direct connection with the Mac in order to be recognized/function correctly.. but again, thats just a guess... and I could easily be incorrect and it might just be a quirk of either the way the BCF works or this method of getting it to work with newer OS X versions...

Anyhow, I'm really glad it works and thanks for confirming this method did the trick for you... Much appreciated!

Cheers..
