simple question - set in & out points

I have a LONG MP3 file that I need to pull specific parts out & save them as separate MP3s.

How do I set the in & out points and export using Garageband?

I'm assuming I would just position the in & out points at the beginning/end of the audio I want to export, choose "export" (or something) & it would write that portion of the master track to a new MP3...BUT I can't even see any place to create or move in & out markers.

...at least, this is how I would do it in Cubase. Does it work this way in Garageband?

Use the Cycle Region button and stretch the yellow bar to encompass what you want exported.

Any way to do it by entering minutes/seconds?

I have a list of timecode & it would go very smoothly if I could just type in the in/out points & hit export for each one...

Also...

Once I've selected the cycle region (or entered in/out points) - where is this "export" feature?

I can only see features for exporting the entire song.

Ah ... that would explain it.

I come from the Cubase VST world ... in the end I found it was easier to use QT Pro for this. I'll import the MP3s into Garageband or another editor if I need to add fades & such.

In general my preference for doing things like that would be to use an Audio Editor, they're designed for, well, editing audio:

Hangtime is right, though this does require decoding and then recoding after editing. You could look at 'MP3 Trimmer':

http://www.deepniner.net/mp3trimmer/

which can top and tail the existing MP3 file and save the result out. It is $10.95.
