Yosemite won't install ("OS_X_FULL_MARKETING_NAME cannot be installed on this computer")

hello all -

i have a 2011 iMac - 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM. it was recently running Mavericks and the hard drive bit the dust. rather than pay Apple it's asking price of my left arm or my first born child for the privilege of having my hard drive replaced at the Apple Store, i purchased a very well reviewed third party SSHD from Amazon and installed it at home with a friend. everything is great, boot time is fantastic. installed the original OS off the grey disk and restored everything off of Time Machine. i then downloaded Yosemite from the App Store and the installer gives me the following error message when i try to install.

ALERT
OS_X_FULL_MARKETING_NAME cannot be installed on this computer

as of right now, i am stuck with OS X 10.6.8 and some very limited application functionality until i can figure out a way to get something more current (preferably Yosemite) to install.

after doing some digging, i have been reading about Apple's killing support for third party SSDs and the issues and workarounds with kext signing and TRIM, etc... i am planning to use Trim Enabler from Cindori and just be careful with my drivers. is the fact that i have a third party drive the reason for this (somewhat odd - full marketing name??) error message, or is it unrelated? any ideas on how to get Yosemite installed?

any help would be monumentally appreciated.

I recently installed SSD's in my 2010 MBP and my 2008 iMac and had no problems reinstalling OS X 10.10.2 on them. However, I already had 10.10.2 installed on both machines before I swapped out the HDDs. I restored a full SuperDuper! disk backup onto the newly installed and partitioned SSDs (taken prior to changing out the HDDs). Once that was all done and working I reinstalled 10.10.2 on top of the existing installation (to recreate the recovery partition that is lost when you do a full disk restore from a SuperDuper! backup) and that worked fine. I'm now using Trim Enabler on both machines with no issues, I don't believe your problem is related to that or Apple's lack of support for Trim on 3rd party SSDs.
