Q: Windows 7 on Mac Freeze before login.

Hello!

 

I recently purchased a macbook pro retina, mainly for music production but also for some other stuff.

Now the thing is that the music production software that i'm using, does only work with pc. So i decided to

bootcamp my mac so that i can use it as a pc.

 

So far everything has gone as planned. I can now operate windows 7 on my mac and the Music Software (FL Studio 10)

works as a charm.

 

It was just recently when i tried to install my external Sound drive (Audiobox USB) that i was experiencing some problems

with the audio. So i googled about the issue and somewhere i read that it could possibly have to do with the USB drivers being out of date.

So i checked the device manager to see the who the developer of the usb drive is (to find updates) ect.

Now when i've found the updates, i try to uninstall the previous USB devices that i have so that i can install the new ones. But somewhere in between

uninstalling and installing the new drivers, the computer suddenly freezes. I try to reboot normally and in safe mode, but when i come to the

windows log in screen, i can't type or move my mouse.

 

I'm not very bright when it comes to computers (especially macs), but after giving it some thought i think that i might have caused an error

since i kinda forgot i was operating on a macbook and not Pc. I mean, when using bootcamp you get the "apple drivers for windows" download

and that's probably where i should have gone in the first place, to look for updates. Now instead i have tried to manually take away the usb drivers and install the

updates from Intels website.

 

Is there a way to solve this without having to start over and uninstall/install bootcamp from scratch?

    You seem to have accidentally uninstalled the BC USB drivers.

     

    The simplest method is to use a wired keyboard/mouse and download BC drivers from System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers which will restore all your USB drivers except the AudioBox driver.


    Find the correct ones for AudioBox and install them in addition to what you already have.

    Thank you for the quick answer. I think that your solution might fix the problem i have. But after downloading the BC support software to my

    USB flash drive (EXFAT format), I try once again to reboot and choose Windows in the startup, but i keep getting stuck at the

    log in page. I can't use the built in keyboard/mouse or my wired keyboard to type in my password or do anything else.

    So how am i going to get inside and boot the bootcamp driver updates on my flash stick when i can't get in?

     

    Do i need to load my Win7.iso  to my flash drive again, so that when it restarts i can choose "repair" instead of install (if there is anything like that) ?

    You need to use a USB2 - FAT-formatted USB flash disk.

    Ok. So now i have a usb 2.0 formatted to fat32 and i have downloaded "Boot Camp support Software 5.1.5621 and copied the folder to the flash drive.

    What am i going to do next, since i can't log in to Windows desktop -> My computer ->Usb->Bootcamp support software ect.

    Can you boot Windows in Windows Safe Mode?

    Of all the safe mode alternative, no one gets through the login page. I know that  windows doesn't freeze because I can se the "enter password"

    box blink. It's just that I can't type or click anywhere.

    If you used BCA, did you create a USB which contained BC drivers and the Windows ISO to install it?

    Yes, that's how i did it. I downloaded "latest windows support from apple" and the win 7 iso. Then i put it together with the windows 7 USB/DvD tool iso so that i could boot it on the USB.

    This USB can also be used to Repair Windows. When the Installer starts, bottom left corner should also have a Repair option.

    just tried that, but the second  i got to the first step (language settings) I can't choose anything by using the keyboard or mousepad. I decided to uninstall/reinstall instead. At least I've learned a valuable lesson. Thanks for the help tho, much appreciated!
